The Bible does not speak about
cremation, one way or the other. However, it does deal with the handling of a
body after death with respect, and to see that it is reverently entombed. The
early believers adopted a wonderful word for the final resting place of their
loved ones. It’s the Greek word koimeterion,
from which we get our English word cemetery.
Koimeterion means “rest house” or “sleeping place” for strangers. It’s the
same word used for an inn—a place where you would rest before continuing your
journey.
