Most people think Jesus was a carpenter and the son of a carpenter. Josh McDowell, who used to live in Julian, wrote a book titled, More Than A Carpenter. The idea of carpentry comes from a passage in Matthew’s Gospel 13:55 “Is not this the carpenter’s son?”
The Greek word that is translated carpenter is tekton. It simply means a craftsman—any craftsman, of wood, brick, glass, metal, anything. It is tradition that has made Him as a carpenter and that is perfectly fine with me. I like the sound of carpenter. Can you imagine a book titled, More Than A Mason?
